World Builder – Quick Selection Bar https://www.portalsunited.com:443/docs/world-builder-quick-selection-bar/ https://www.portalsunited.com:443/docs/world-builder-quick-selection-bar/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 12:26:10 +0000 https://www.portalsunited.com:443/?post_type=docs&p=246 On right side in the location view, you’ll see a bar with object icons. Objects can be dragged into the location to place them at a specific spot.

Fixed Slots (Special Objects)

The upper four slots are fixed slots with special objects. From top to bottom they are:

Empty Object: can be used as a parent objects to group objects.

Light: Light sources for your location

Text: Display a 2D plane with text in 3D space.

Multi Object Slot: Right-click and hold to choose from Trigger Zone, Snap Field, Button, Slider and Knob

Assignable Asset Slots

From slot number 5 to the bottom of the quick selection bar there are assignable asset slots which are empty by default. Click on any of these slots to open an asset selection panel, where you can search for assets in your project and assign one to the selected slot. The asset selection panel functions as a compact version of the asset manager.

Additionally, multiple assets can be assigned to a single slot. Right-click and hold to choose from the assets assigned to that slot.

Note: You can also drag and assign assets directly from the asset manager list to the quick selection bar.

World Builder – Inspectors https://www.portalsunited.com:443/docs/world-builder-inspectors/ https://www.portalsunited.com:443/docs/world-builder-inspectors/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 14:31:57 +0000 https://www.portalsunited.com:443/?post_type=docs&p=242 Whenever you select an object in your location, the inspector tool bar will appear next to the quick selection bar on the right side of the location view. The entries in the inspector may vary depending on the type of selected object.

General inspector entries

The four uppermost entries are the same for most of the object types:

Object information: Displays object id, name and tags

Custom data components: Add custom data components to your object (see World Builder – Runtime Scripting Documentation)

Visibility: Toggle the object’s visibility. Invisible objects can still be found and selected in the location object list.

Transform: Here you can change the position, rotation, and scaling of the object similar to the translate, rotate, and scale tools, but in a more precise way with numbers.

Object specific inspector entries

The fifth entry of the inspector tool bar is specific to the type of selected object. In the most common case of objects based on 3D model assets, three inspector fields are available:

Object Type: Can be solid object, solid object with teleport, ghost object or grabbable object. The choice determines the object’s behaviour in Portal Hopper. Making the object grabbable will show up further detailed options in the inspector.

Exposed Children: The expose button opens up a dialog where you can select sub-meshes of the 3D model for exposure. That means they will become children of the object and can be modified seperately.

Material: Select the material to apply to the object. Choose “Original Material” to restore the object with the materials that were imported along with the 3D model asset.

Signal Connectors

Some inspector entries may have signal connector buttons. Signal connectors allow objects to send or receive information to or from other objects.

Example: In the image below, the “Has Gravity Signal” is a receiving signal connector (plug symbol). It is connected to a signal called “My True/False Signal”. Whenever the value of the signal is changed to false by another object’s sending signal connector (megaphone signal), the object will lose its gravity and fall.

Note: A Signal’s value can be also changed by nodes in the logic editor.

If at least one signal is connected the signal connector button will show up red.

World Builder – Location Object List https://www.portalsunited.com:443/docs/world-builder-location-object-list/ https://www.portalsunited.com:443/docs/world-builder-location-object-list/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 09:31:27 +0000 https://www.portalsunited.com:443/?post_type=docs&p=1021 The location object list can be toggled by selecting the first entry in the location menu. You can see a hierarchical list of all the objects in your location. Selected objects appear highlighted in the list as well as in the location.

You can make one object a child of another by dragging and dropping it onto the new parent object. When you move, rotate, or scale the parent object, the child object will follow. To undo this action, simply drag and drop the child object out of the parent object. Both objects will then be on the same hierarchical level again.

The same object location list is also visible in the logic editor; however, parenting objects is not supported there.
